Zunheboto Sumi Totimi Hoho (ZSTH) has threatened to down shutters in Zunheboto town in protest against the August 7 action of 32 Assam Rifles personnel on women and youth at Project Colony, Zunheboto town.

In a memorandum, ZSTH president Boholi Awomi and general secretary Hukashi R Awomi claimed that on August 7 at around 5 p.m. two AR personnel in civies were caught clicking photographs from mobile phones “in a suspicious manner”. Subsequently, ZSTH said some colony youth confronted the duo for secretly taking their photos leading to heated arguments.

ZSTH, however, claimed that by 5:30 p.m. a contingent of 32 AR suddenly arrived at the spot, surrounded the area with “cocked gun and started beating up the youth mercilessly”. In the process, the hoho said two youth namely Arkha and Hito, a tuberculosis patent, were badly beaten up.

As the two youth were innocent residents of project colony, ZSTH said the womenfolk intervened by appealing to the AR personnel not to harm them further. However, the hoho alleged that the AR personnel started beating up even the mothers with “AK 47 and SLR butts”. At least three women were injured Vinitoli, Aboli, Lovikali and Shikali, ZSTH stated.

In view of the “barbaric conduct” and “savage act”, the ZSTH has demanded “unconditional apology” from the commandant 32 AR Zunheboto on or before August 13, 2019.

Failure to tender apology within the stipulated period, ZSTH said it would initiate shutter down agitation in Zunheboto town.
