A press release by Zeme Students’ Union (N) stated that DC appreciated the union and cited that there were many books on village administration or Nagaland Village Council Act 1978 in English but such books in local language were rare.

In this regard, he encouraged the union to enact and insert more of latest government gazette and departmental notification to update the village authority in the rural area.

He also opined that district administration was ready to extend materials and its support in the coming days if the union could bring more such publication to educate and empower village council authorities for smooth functioning.

He hoped that through the booklet, the village councils in the district would become aware of their duties, functions and strive towards transparency, accountability and development.

President ZCN, Dr. Tumda Newme spoke on the purposes of the booklet, its importance as well as the rights and responsibilities the government had given to the villages.

ADC Jalukie, Dr. Tinong Jongshi stressed on the need to balance the village council in focusing more on development rather than copying the election or chasing for leadership.

Earlier, president, Aakam Pame introduced the audience to the booklet by interpreting Nagaland Village Council Act 1978, government gazettes and notification.
