Zunheboto Sumi Totimi Hoho (ZSTH) conducted a one-day seminar at Old Town Sector Church, Zunheboto on August 11 on “role of women in conflict” and “role of women against HIV”. 

A press release from ZSTH stated that, the speakers were Toli H. Kiba and Hokishe Chophy president of ZSTH. 

In the first session, the speaker Toli spoke on “role of women in conflict” and emphasised on the importance of empowering women. She said that even in times of war, women intervened where the government or other bodies could not, and bring peace. She said that women must stand for their rights because if not, society will not change. She hoped that women would take active part in elections and she also encouraged the STH to take a step forward and fight for women’s rights. She urged them to play active roles in providing training centres in Zunheboto, shelter homes, hostel for women and also asked them to visit offices and talk to the officers on various schemes and programs meant for women.

In the second session, Hokishe Chophy, speaking on “role of women against HIV”, highlighted the HIV scenario in Nagaland and also spoke on the basics and origin of HIV. He emphasised on the importance of STH in playing vital roles in not only preventions but also reduction in the percentage of HIV in Zunheboto in particular. He explained that the data says there are more than 300 sex workers in the district. Hokishe said that people should also stop discriminating against HIV/AIDS patients and deal with them as one would deal with a normal person. He also said that by 2020, WHO is targeting a 90% HIV status awareness for the population, 90% to get ART treatment and 90% of to have viral suppression. 

Khegholi Shohe, president (STH-N) exhorted the gathering and also highlighted some upcoming programs of STH-N. Vote of thanks was delivered by Inali V and benediction was said by Tokhuli S. 

Earlier, the welcome address and introduction was delivered by Boholi, president ZSTH.
