The “7th Sumi Martyr’s Day” was observed at the Martyr’s Park, Sukhalu by a group of likeminded citizens of Zunheboto along with members of Sumi Hoho, STH, SKK, ZSTH, GBs Association Zunheboto Town, NGOs and well wishers on December 28.

A press release by the organising committee stated that, former president of Sumi Hoho, Dr. Huskha Yepthomi while delivering a short speech reminded that, Sumis should never fail to observe two important events, the 4th of August (Sumi Patriots’ Day) and December 28 (Sumi Martyr’s Day). He also lauded the endeavour of the likeminded citizens of Zunheboto for organizing the Sumi Martyr’s Day. He further stressed that the three brave souls beneath the grave at the park stood as an epitome that Sumi menfolk will never fail to defend the honour and dignity of their womenfolk to the extent of sacrificing their lives. Their deeds shall not go in vain and it would endure the sands of time, he added.

Quoting from the book of John 11:50 that “Nor consider that is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not”, ZTSBC pastor Rev. Dr. Daniel Chishi said that, if it concerns a whole lot of people it was better for a single man to die. He offered prayers for the martyrs and their families, which was followed by laying down of wreaths by different Sumi organisations. The day concluded with candle light memorial service at Centre Point Zunheboto.
