‘Angh’ to represent India at Clermont Ferrand International Film Festival

‘Angh’ a fictional short film from Nagaland has been selected to be featured at the Clermont Ferrand International Film Festival in France. ‘Angh’ written and directed by Theja Rio and produced by Theja Rio and Nancy Nisa Beso was the only film from India that was accepted.

The festival received tens of thousands of short films from around the world, with ‘Angh’ among the 77 short films that made it to the final cut of. The Festival will begin from January 29 till February 6, 2021. ‘Angh’ will be making its world premiere at the Festival on a date yet to be announced. 

It may be mentioned that the Clermont Ferrand International Film Festival, held annually, is the biggest international festival dedicated to short films and widely considered to be the most prestigious. All the short films accepted at the Clermont Ferrand Film festival automatically become ‘Oscar Qualified’ (qualified to be Oscar nominated) and hence lures the biggest filmmakers from across the globe. 

The film, shot in Nagaland in 2019, is a story about a father and a son who were the last people in their village to convert to Christianity. The entire post production phase of the film took place in Mumbai. 

Despite the subject of the story being from and shot in Nagaland, the people who worked on the film were from diverse backgrounds like- Vincenzo Condorelli, an Italian cinematographer; Sagar Desai, an American/Indian music composer (Death in the Gunj, Quick Gun Murugan) who composed the music for the film; Bhupesh Micky Sharma (Editor of Chauti Khoot, signed into the film as editor and Hassan Hassandost, an acclaimed Iranian editor was on board as the Editing consultant for Angh. 

“We were also fortunate to have a lot of talented cast and crew members from Nagaland and the North East (Guwahati especially) who worked tirelessly on the film,” said Theja Rio.
