‘International Day of Yoga’ observed in Nagaland

Along with the rest of the world, Nagaland observed the International Day of Yoga on June 21 in various districts. 

PYSK: Pantajali Yog Samity Kohima (PYSK), promoting yoga for well being of people of the state, conducted “International Day of Yoga” (IDY) on June 21. 
A press release from PYSK, stated that in view of restrictions on public gatherings due to COVID-19 pandemic, it celebrated the 6th IDY at Kohima, Nagaland under the Theme “Yoga at home, and yoga with family” on digital media platform connecting members of the Samity and  people at home. 
The programme was addressed by president, PYSK, Santu Thapa, and the yoga session was conducted by Ashok Singh, as per yoga protocol framed by AYUSH Ministry, India.
The release stated that the ongoing health crisis due to COVID-19 pandemic had affected millions of lives, with mental and psychological impact, being as grave as the physical ailment. In such times, having strong immunity and sound health was the key to fighting the rapidly spreading disease. Yoga focuses on strengthening the immunity and provide effective, accessible, and affordable means to fight the negative impacts of COVID-19, the release added.
COVSc&AH: Faculty and staff of College of Veterinary Sciences & AH (COVSc&AH), Jalukie, observed 6th IDY on June 21. 
A press release from the college stated that, temperature and oxygen level of all faculty and staff were recorded before entry, using Thermoscan and Oximeter. Dean COVSc&AH, Dr. Arun Kumar Sangwan, briefed about importance of yoga. The yoga session was conducted by Dr. Uday Umrikar, maintaining social distancing norms.
HQ 5 Sector:  Battalions of Headquarters 5 Sector Assam Rifles celebrated the day with the theme “My life my yoga”. According to PRO HQ IGAR (N), troops and families of Assam Rifles practiced various yoga exercises and asanas in their homes and place of living following strict social distancing norms. 1068 personnel comprising all ranks from various Battalion Headquarters and Company Operating Bases, 49 families and 56 children participated.
HQ 6 Sector: Battalions of Headquarters 6 Sector Assam Rifles celebrated with participants who practiced yoga in their respective barracks and family quarters. A total of 2000 personnel, 500 families and 150 children participated in the event. 
HQ 7 Sector: Battalions of Headquarters 7 Sector Assam Rifles observed the day where the exercise was organized in barracks, posts and in quarters. 
A total of 2750 including personnel, families and children participated in the yoga sessions.
