‘School health & wellness prog’ launched in Kohima

Orientation programme of principals, headmasters and head teachers on “school health & wellness programme” under Ayushman Bharat for district of Kohima commenced on March 16, 2021 at SIEMAT Hall, SCERT, Kohima. 

According to DIPR report, an inaugural session was held with principal director, school education, Shanavas C as special guest. Addressing the participants present, Shanavas highlighted on the dire need of the students’ health and wellness as well as their mental health.

He emphasised on the importance of counseling in school as children from different economic and social status underwent different psychological experiences.

Shanavas also stressed on the need to address the substance abuse among student groups, nutritional needs and sexual health. 

He urged all to realise the positive impact of converging among the allied departments and that the programme should not concentrate only at state or district level but should also trickle down till block/village level.

Further, the principal director appealed to the participants to be exemplary, as students emulated their teachers. Delivering an introduction of the programme, nodal officer, school health programme (SHP), department of health & family welfare (H&FW), Nagaland, Dr. Khriesilie Sachü stated that it envisage facilitation of an integral approach to health programming and more effective learning at the school level.

Dr. Khriesilie also mentioned that school played a crucial role in helping students establish healthy behavior for their lifetime and informed that two teachers from each school would be trained as “health & wellness ambassadors”.

The students would then act as health & wellness messengers in the society and work on improving health practices in their community. 

Earlier, the inaugural programme was chaired by DIET senior lecturer, Kenilo Semp and vote of thanks by DIET lecturer, Visedeü Solo. The inaugural programme was followed by orientation of the school principals and head masters. 

It may be mentioned that the programme is jointly organised by H&FW and DoSE, Nagaland with DIET Pfütsero, Phek lecturer Sony Katiry, DIET Pfütsero, Phek senior lecturer, Dr. Anile Puro, DIET, Chiechama, Kohima lecturer, Visede-ü Solo and DIET, Chiechama, Kohima senior lecturer Kenilo Semp as resource persons with two mentor from SCERT.

Ayushman Bharat - school health & wellness programme is launched in a phase wise manner in Kohima, Kiphire and Peren districts in the first phase while remaining districts would be covered in the coming days. The training of the head teachers would commence from March 17 to 20, 2021.
