‘World AIDS Day’ observed in Nagaland

Along with the rest of the world and under the theme, “Global solidarity, share responsibility”, the World AIDS Day was held in various districts at respective health units across the state on December 1. 

Wokha: The programme was observed at CMO conference hall Wokha, organised by DAPCU, DLN, AHANA, ITEC and NUN TI sponsored by NSACS. 

A press release by CMO office stated that, deputy CMO Dr.Zuben Kikon lauded the efforts of the health workers, community representatives and other sectors for their active involvement and providing services to persons living with HIV/AIDS even during the COVID-19 pandemic. DLN president Apeni Lotha, stated that people living with HIV/AIDS should declare their status so that they can avail proper treatment. Moasunep Imchen DIS presented the HIV/AIDS scenario of Wokha district. Lichumo Odyuo DPO DAPCU declared the RRC online quiz competition result where Mhademo, Lothunglo, Lolano and Soyingbeni, all from Bailey Baptist College bagged  first, second, third and consolation prizes, in the programme chaired by Loyivani PM NUN TI.

DAPCU Dimapur: District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) Dimapur in collaboration with District Level Network, Vihaan CSC & Partner TI NGOs of Dimapur observed at chapel hall, District Hospital Dimapur (DHD).

A press release by DAPCU Dimapur stated that, main speaker Dr. Hotoka Hesso, senior medical officer (SMO) ART Plus Centre Dimapur, highlighted and focussed on HIV prevention and how COVID affects the individual’s immune system. He also stressed on the importance of taking proper medication, food and vitamins to boost the immune system of an individual. Result of the district level NSACS online quiz competition and winners in various categories was also declared by DPO, DAPCU. The NSACS provided a one-time educational assistance to 3 CLHIVs, where Dr. Hotoka Hesso gave away the grant in aid to 3 CLHIVs for educational support for one academic year with a cash amount of Rs 12000 each. Programme was chaired by Vimezuno, programme coordinator of Vihaan CSC. Rev. Yhunlo Thong, invocation by chaplain, District Hospital Dimapur. Rokomeno, mentor, I-Tech shared on the significance of the day and Mary Jimo gave a short speech on behalf of the PLHIV community.

DAPCU Phek: In Phek, the programme was held at town council hall, Phek, sponsored by Nagaland State Aids Control Society.

A press release by DAPCU Phek stated that, guest speaker Wethso Lasushe EAC Phek said that contribution towards the people living with HIV play an important role. As a responsible individual, citizens and leaders, he said one can achieve the goal to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic by 2030. 

CMO Dr. Vibeituonuo Mepfuo gave away the grant in aid to three children living with HIV for educational support for one academic year with the cash amount of Rs 12000 each, sponsored by NSACS. A district level NSACS online quiz competition result of various categories of winners was also declared by DPO, DAPCU. Mese Letro, president PNP + FO AHANA requested the participants not to stigmatize the people living with HIV but to contribute morally and physically. Brief presentation of HIV scenario of Phek district was given by Hierhotho Kajiri DIS, DAPCU, and special number by Akhruto Dozo RPC member.

Programme was chaired by Thuputo Venuh PM ELF, invocation by Thepfuneizo Yhor pastor, Angami Baptist Church, Phek town and vote of thanks by Vezotalu Shijoh.

Jalukie Battalion: Jalukie Battalion conducted awareness campaign on the occasion at Punglwa village on December 1.

According to PRO HQ IGAR (N), Assam Rifles troop reached out to people of Punglwa village to spread awareness about AIDS, Corona and preventive measures. Lecture and interactive session was conducted to draw attention of locals as to what could be done to address AIDS and ongoing pandemic of Corona, while importance of detection at early stages and treatment available were also deliberated to them. Villagers were also briefed about various health and hygiene methods to be implemented to avoid the disease.  

Peren: District AIDS control unit Peren observed the day in collaboration with ADC office Jalukie, NPDP +, AHANA, VIHAAN, ITECH on December 1, attended by ADC Jalukie Tinu Jongshi with his staff and leaders from different organisations.

A press release by CMO office, district media officer Pezanguno Celine Secü stated that, DTO/DACO Dr. Supongmenla shared on the theme and stressed that everyone should cooperate and work together and shared responsibility in fight against the HIV /AIDS. Programme also witnessed the felicitation of CLHIV, where 12 CLHIV received support and declaration of result of online quiz competition.  Earlier, programme was chaired by Ngauzeulungbe and vote of thanks delivered by NPDP+Peren president Wikambo.
