25th WCC kicks off in Wokha

Tempo Cricket Club thrashed Atom SC by eight wickets in the opening match of the 25th edition of Winter Cricket Challenge at local ground, Wokha on Tuesday. Tempo CC chased down 103 runs in 12 overs.

The tournament is being played under the theme, “Dreams Amplifying Hopes”. 

Earlier, the opening ceremony was graced by advisor, IT, Science & Technology and New & Renewable Energy, Mmhonlumo Kikon as guest of honour. 

Kikon, who also unveiled the monolith and released the winter cricket silver jubilee edition souvenir magazine acknowledged the past and present officials of Senior Noble Klan, the organiser of the tournament, for their milestone achievement along the journey of 25 years and having impressed a game of cricket. 

He said despite the challenges, the pioneers and present officials of Senior Noble Klan have made a landmark achievement. 

Keeping this in mind, he encouraged the players to compete in true game spirit reminding them that winning was not only important but developing sports culture and realizing their hidden talents and strength was more important.

He said that Nagaland Cricket Association has reached national level by participating in Ranji and Vijay Hazare Trophy. 

He therefore encouraged the players to expose beyond their talent with hardwork and determination and hoped that the young players will outshine and represent Nagaland state at the national level as well as at the international level.

He also advised the Senior Noble Klan to not only remain as an organization but to nurture and train the young players in the spirit of sportsmanship, develop their hidden talents and pave a platform for them to represent at the national level.

Kikon further urged the players to uphold the game of spirit and assured all possible help to develop their talent and wished them grand and successful tournament. 

Earlier, the opening ceremony commenced with an invocation by associate pastor WTBC, Zurenthung Humtsoe followed by a minute of silent in honour of the departed cricketers. 

Pankathung Ovung in his presidential address gave a brief highlight on the foundation of Senior Noble Klan. 

The programme also witnessed silver edition blessings from Rev. Dr. L. Tsanso, Executive Secretary, Lotha Baptist Churches Association. 

Highlights of the programme included special song by Sojano Tsopoe and acknowledgements from Khyolamo Humtsoe, secretary organising. The programme was chaired by T. Penthungo Lotha.
