The first sitting of the 15th Assam Legislative Assembly would begin on Friday, May 21, The Sentinel Assam Reported.

The session summoned by Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi would be for three days. 

On the first day of the session, all newly elected 126 MLAs would be administered the oath of secrecy. 

On second day, May 22, Governor would address the Assembly and on May 24, the concluding day of the three-day Assembly session, motion of thanks for Governor’s speech has been scheduled. May 23 is Sunday therefore there will be no sitting of the Assembly.

AGP leader, former Assam Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and 8-time MLA from Bongaigaon, Phani Bhushan Choudhury would be the pro-tem speaker. 

Choudhury was administered oath of secrecy on Wednesday by Assam chief secretary Jishnu Baruah in absence of the Governor. 

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had designated Choudhury as protem speaker. This will be the first Assembly session after the Assam Assembly elections of 2021.

Biswajit Daimary files nomination for Speaker’s post
BJP MLA Biswajit Daimary on Thursday submitted his nomination paper for the post of the Speaker of the Assam assembly. Saffron party legislator Numal Momin will submit his papers for the Deputy Speaker’s post. Daimary filed his nomination in presence of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and BJP state president Ranjeet Kumar Dass.
Earlier in the day, the BJP in a meeting chose Daimary to be the next Speaker and Momin as the Deputy Speaker for the 15th Assam legislative assembly, the first session of which will begin from Friday.
In February, Daimary was re-elected to the Rajya Sabha after he switched sides to the BJP from the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF). He contested the assembly polls from the Panery constituency and won by a margin of 35,852 votes.
