36th PDSA meet underway at Thenyizu

The 36th Phek District Sports Association (PDSA) meet and 1st Naga style wrestling hosted by Chokri Area Games and Sports Association kicked off on Tuesday at Thenyizu village. The event was graced by deputy chief minister Y Patton as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Patton said that Chakhesang community has always been in the forefront in different areas especially in the field of games and sports which is for the rest of the Nagas to emulate. He was impressed by the spirit of unity and sense of brotherhood exhibited by them adding that the PDSA motto “Stronger, Faster & Higher” should be practical not only in sports but in social life. The deputy chief minister also said that the people from the district were blessed with good physique, essential for sports persons which is an added advantage. 
Patton also said he was proud that Phek district has produced a daughter in the like of Chekrovolu Swuro, who has won medals in national and international archery competition and also participated in the most prestigious 2012 Olympic games in individual and team archery. The deputy CM maintained that the ruling PDA government under the dynamic leadership of the chief minister Neiphiu Rio, through the department of Youth Resources is committed for uplifting the young talented sports persons of the state especially through Khelo India vision that is aimed at promoting indigenous games and sports and urged committed sports persons to avail such opportunities. 
Patton also said that games and sports is about skill, strength and stamina, adding that a winner is a combination of all these qualities and therefore urged upon the youngsters to stay away from harmful habits and lead a disciplined and healthy life. 
Earlier, the deputy CM inaugurated the Kronyi Kapu Memorial Ground at Thenyizumi village named after Kronyi, the first man from the area to get formal education, who became an educator. The minister also assured to look into the funding of road maintenance leading to the ground. 
Minister Neiba Kronu, advisors, Dr. Longrineken, Kazheto Kinimi, Toshi Wantung, DC and SP Phek, CO 10 IRB, Vekhosa Chakhesang, Eduzu Thulu-o, PDA member and State general secretary BJP and host of government officials and state & district party workers also accompanied the deputy chief minister, this was stated  in a press release issued by media cell deputy CM office.
