6 injured as poll-related violence continues in Mnp

With election related activities gaining momentum in Manipur, at least six people were injured in election related clash between supporters and party workers of rival candidates in Andro assembly constituency of Imphal East district on Monday. 

Three of them sustained bullet injuries and the condition of one was stated to be critical. All the six injured people were admitted at JNIMS hospital, Imphal. 

According to reports, the clash erupted between supporters of former minister Th Shyamkumar and L Sanjoy as both were on poll-related rally. The duo area also BJP ticket aspirants for the Andro assembly constituency.  Reports said that participants of the poll rally were attacked with stones and other weapons when they were passing through a village where the former minister himself was attending a meeting.  With tension running high, a large number of armed police personnel were been deployed in the area, reports said.  In another poll-related clash, several people sustained injuries in Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Assembly constituency of Imphal West district on Monday afternoon. The clash reportedly erupted between supporters of former MLA, A Subhaschandra and BJP’s intending candidate S Kebi Devi. It was reported that during the clash, several rounds were also fired. 

In one of the deadly clashes reported in Thoubal district, as many as 10 people sustained bullet injuries. Manipur is slated to go to polls in the early part of next year.
