8 Assam Rifles organise tree plantation drive in Mizoram

Serchhip Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of 23 Sector Assam Rifles and/ Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) conducted a tree plantation drive at company operating base Zokhawthar, Sangau and Thingsai on July 20

A press release by the PRO ( Defence) stated that the drive was aimed at  motivating troops on the importance of trees and its secondary advantages like prevention of soil erosion and landslides, especially in landslide prone area like Mizoram. A total of 825 saplings of various varieties including parkia (bitter bean), palm, orange, tamarind, lemon, guava and jackfruit were planted in and around company operating base premises, the release stated. 

Troops participated with great enthusiasm and the ownership of the plants is being entrusted to those who plant the trees, the release added.
