Advertise posts of pharmacists: URPAN

Unemployed Registered Pharmacists’ Association Nagaland (URPAN) has urged the state government to advertise the posts of pharmacists. URPAN convener Savizo Kezieo and secretary M Metmei Phom stated that the state government in 2015 had abruptly cut down the existing 490 posts of pharmacists to 309 without proper analysis on ground of cadre review, which was precisely loss of 181 posts of pharmacists in the state.

After the review, the association said the state government had put a blanket ban on new appointments from 2015 till 2022. As a result, URPAN said the posts of pharmacists were withdrawn from sub centre level, where underprivileged sections of the society receive healthcare services rendering many primary health centres, community health centres and even district hospitals without requisite number of pharmacists.

Pointing out that as per Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940 & Rules, 1945 and the Pharmacy Practice Regulation, 2015, only a registered pharmacist can dispense drugs/medicines, the association wondered as to how those health care institutions were supposed to function without pharmacists.

URPAN has, therefore, appealed the state government to peruse the matter on urgent basis and reinstate the existing number of 490 posts of pharmacists and lift the blanket ban in the interest of the society.
