Directorate of Agriculture organised training and awareness programme on scaling up of lowland paddy at the directorate conference hall on July 7.

A press release from the department stated that, while speaking at the programme, director of agriculture, M. Ben Yanthan, said that the scheme was a new programme under RKVY scheme to enhance food production in the state. He also said that there were only few crops in commercial production in Nagaland and therefore to achieve the department target, “food for all by 2025”, he encouraged agriculture officials to rededicate themselves and strengthen to improve agriculture production in the state.

He also added that Nagaland initially had only two districts (Wokha and Mokokchung) and eight SDAOs division Nuiland, Baghty, Mangkolemba, Jalukie, Naginemora, Tuli, Medziphema and Tizit for lowland paddy. Yanthan shared that 940 hectares was needed to expand for ongoing kharif crops and that, expansion of areas was vital for production.

Meanwhile key implementation of the scheme was delivered by joint director of Agriculture (planning) Letkholal Hangsing, who emphasised on the guidelines of implementation of the new programme scheme under RKVY. He also stressed on the importance to achieve self-sufficient production and encouraged agri officials to uphold their duties once they go back to their respective areas to improve agri- allied sectors.

Earlier, vote of thanks was delivered by deputy director of Agriculture (planning) K. Kherhprai.
