AVSU, MTABC, SFXCC celebrate jubilees

Auching Village Staffs Union (AVSU), Medziphema Town Ao Baptist Church (MTABC) and St Francis Xavier Catholic Church (SFXCC) Kidima celebrated silver and golden jubilees respectively at Auching village, Medziphema town and Kidima village.

AVSU: Auching Village Staffs Union (AVSU) celebrated its 25th anniversary under the theme, “Pillar of light” at Auching Baptist Church on December 20, with Association of Phom Graduate and Officers (APGO), president Y. B. Angam Phom as special guest. 

While lauding AVSU for making numerous achievements during the last twenty five years and reaching thus far, the special guest said, government employees were the pillar of society and play an important role in transforming and uplifting the community at large. 

Pointing out that people expect government job holders for all positive transformation, he called upon the union to be a torch bearer and always willing to render their service for the betterment of the society. 

He also said that peace, unity and cooperation among the people were vital for development and survival and urged the gathering to strive for a better future. Special guest also reminded that celebration of jubilee was to retrospect on the achievements made during the past twenty five years and to seek blessings for the next coming years. He acknowledged the pioneers for establishing the union despite many difficulties and urged to follow in their footsteps for positive transformation and development. 

Earlier, special guest also unveiled the jubilee monolith, while dedicatory prayer was offered by Auching Baptist Church, pastor P. Belong Phom. Programme was chaired by K. Wongto Phom and T. Monyu Phom, scripture reading and prayer by T. Anyang Phom, exhortation by M. Langke Phom and special song presented by Chingkang youth and gospel team. (Correspondent)

MTABC: Medziphema Town Ao Baptist Church (MTABC) celebrated golden jubilee under the theme, “Proclaiming liberty” from December 19 to 20.

A press release by MTABC pastor Anungba Imsong stated that, Rev. Lipok Pongen, church & mission coordinator, ABAM, Rev. I. Wati Jamir, pastor, DABA and Dr. Yangermongba, founder president, BCCI, Bangalore, were the main speakers. Short speeches were delivered by president, Ao Senso Telongjem Medziphema, family member of late Imtikumzuk, founder of MTABC and Baptist Church Medziphema Town. Jubilee souvenir was released by Rev. Lipok Pongen.

During the opening ceremony, the Christian Education Ministry gave a display for the celebration. MTABC pastor Anungba Imsong welcomed all the invitees, guests and church members. Jubilee planning committee convenor, T. Imsu Tzudir delivered vote of thanks. Youth ministry gave a vibrant display during the closing ceremony. Dr. Akumla Longchar was the recording secretary of the whole programme.

SFXCC: St Francis Xavier Catholic Church (SFXCC) Kidima celebrated 50 years jubilee under the theme, “For the glory of God” (I Corinthians 10: 31) at new Catholic church building on December 20.

A press release by SFXCC Kidima stated that, Most Reverend Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima was main celebrant along with Rev. Fr. Raymond D’Souza SJ, pioneer of Jesuit mission in North East India. Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil in his homily asked the faithful to give gratitude to God for the pioneers and their sacrifices for Catholic faith mission. Bishop called upon the faithful to live with Christian principles of value, hope, sincerity, hard work, rededication, repentance and to face uncertain situation. Bishop said St Joseph College, Jakhama was a great blessing for the village as many youths have earned education and has influenced the society in general. Fr Raymond D’Souza shared on how catechism was taught with video slide show. Earlier, jubilee monolith was blessed by Bishop and unveiled by Fr Raymond D’Souza, director of Eden Garden and Children’s Home, Khuzama. Golden jubilee was formally launched on January 26, and a day retreat was organised on December 13, led by Fr. Sabu, pastoral Training Centre at Bishop House, Dimapur with Ursuline Sisters. On December 16 special Holy Mass for departed souls from church community members was offered. Jubilee souvenir was released by first parish priest Fr P.J. Thomas and jubilee greeting by Keyolevo Augustine, president of Kidima Catholic Union. Kidima Catholic Youth Association choir was led by Zayiekhoto Benedict and Kelevito Carolus. Welcome address was delivered by Reverend Fr Siby John, parish priest of Kidima. Bishop also administered the sacrament of 60 confirmation and 86 first communicants with 42 boys and 44 girls. 

Catholic Association of Nagaland expressed greetings. Nagaland Catholic Youth Movement, Angami Catholic Union, Angami Catholic Youth Association, Angami Catholic Women Association, Southern Angami Catholic Youth Association and neighbouring villages joined the thanksgiving celebration.
