Sambit Patra in Imphal to discuss itinerary

BJP national president JP Nadda, who was planning to undertake a 120-day nationwide tour from December, is likely to reach Imphal on December 13 or 14.

The president was earlier scheduled to arrive in Imphal on December 1-2. However, his visit has been  postponed and he is likely to arrive in Imphal on 13-14, informed BJP’s newly appointed in-charge of Manipur BJP Sambit Patra on Thursday.

Patra arrived in Imphal on Wednesday to discuss the tour programme of the proposed national president’s tour to Manipur with leaders of state and district units of the BJP.

He convened a meeting with presidents of district level units of the party in the presence of state unit president Prof S Tikendra at party office today.

The meeting discussed mobilisation of people and party members to make  the proposed tour in Imphal a grand success, Patra told reporters during a news conference at party office in Imphal after the meeting today. He sought the cooperation of the people and members of the party in the state to make the tour a success for a better Manipur. Informing about the reschedule of the president’s tour, Patra said that the exact date for his tour in the state was yet to be decided.

“Any update to the tour programme will be updated to the media,” the newly appointed Manipur in-charge of the party said. Patra who visited the state for the first time after being appointed in-charge of the party for Manipur, said that he would like to show the president the changes and development that were brought about in the state after the BJP came to power.

“During the meeting, I sought cooperation of party members to make the tour a grand success in the state,” he said.

He claimed that the Central government was giving special emphasis to the north-eastern states including Manipur since the BJP-led NDA government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power.

BJP national president JP Nadda will embark on a 120-day nationwide tour to tone up the party’s formidable organisational machinery with an eye on the 2024 Lok Sabha election.  The saffron dispensation looks to focus on regions where it did not fare well in the last Lok Sabha election.

Nadda was scheduled to begin his tour in the first week of December and Uttarakhand would be the first state on his itinerary.

He is most likely to embark on the tour on December 5. The president would visit every state, hold virtual meetings with heads of all booth units, the smallest organisational entity in the party, and meet every MP and MLA of the organisation, besides its senior leaders, including district chiefs.
