In commemoration of its 25th anniversary, the Benpuluin Semchir Telongjem (BST) organised a free health camp at government middle school, Kumlong ward, Mokokchung where about 200 patients from Kumlong and Mongsenbai wards availed free medical check-up and were provided with medicines on April 10. The medical camp was conducted by Dr. Imliyatet Ozukum and his team from Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC), Yimyu ward.

Speaking on behalf of BST, Nungsang Jamir expressed gratitude to the medical team for conducting a much needed health camp in the locality.

He also conveyed gratitude from ward councils of Kumlong and Mongsenbai to the visiting doctors.

On behalf of the visiting medical team, UPHC Yimyu ward, Sentirenla Longchar thanked BST and all concerned for availing their services while citizens of Kumlong and Mongsenbai wards expressed gratitude to BST.

The medical team was supported by dental specialist Dr. Funitchiba, MD Dr. Alemba and optometric assistant Sangyula.

Nurses and technicians - Mobile Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (ICTC), Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP) and National Vector Brone Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) under CMO Mokokchung also conducted extensive blood tests of the patients.

Patients were also provided with free medicines after their check-up while some complicated cases were referred to other clinics.

The medical camp benefited the citizens, especially the very young and the elderly who could not avail regular health check-up due to the fear of COVID-19.

It may be mentioned that BST was formed by the children and grandchildren of late Benpulin Jamir, a pioneering Ungma citizen and one of the first settlers of Kumlong ward in Mokokchung town.

The Telongjem has been actively involved in different activities in the ward and beyond and also organises an annual volleyball trophy in memory of late Benpulin at Kumlong ward.

The 25th anniversary celebration will culminate in December 2021.
