Ceasefire between Government of India (GoI) and NSCN (R) has been extended by another six months. Both parties signed the agreement at the Cease Fire Supervisory Board (CFSB) and Ceasefire Monitoring Group (CFMG) office, Kohima on Thursday.

According to NSCN (R) MIP, both sides maintained that political negotiation between the Centre and NPGs notwithstanding, continuing to uphold whatever necessities or procedures were at hand ought to be maintained. Hence, they agreed that the ceasefire, which was due to expire on October 27, ought to be extended to promote peace in the region and also to pave way for smooth functioning of the “political journey” between GoI and NSCN.

Further, GoI and NSCN (R) also agreed in principle to continue to uphold the sanctity of laid-down ceasefire ground rules and keep check on any lapses that might arise from either side for, the “hard earned peace” could not be compromised or derailed at any cost.

The team representing GoI included CFSB/CFMG chairman Lt Gen (retd) Amarjeet Singh Bedi and staff officer T Mere, state DGP T.J. Longkumer, commissioner Rovilatuo Mor, IG (INT), Martin Pienyu, commander 5 Sector, IGAR (N) Brig. Abhinav, SO 5 Sector IGAR (N), Capt Prabhjot and CRPF DIG (Ops) Surender Singh. NSCN (R) was represented by Dr Amento Chishi (supervisor, CFSB) and members Amento Chophi, Muzivoyi Puro, Mughato Chophi and Inaki Zhimomi, the release added.
