Centre hands over ambulances to states

Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, and Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways, General (Retd.) VK Singh flagged off 90 basic care ambulances procured by NHIDCL to the States/Union Territories in New Delhi on Wednesday.

According to the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), ambulances were handed over to state governments and UT administrations of Andaman-Nicobar Island, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, J&K, Ladakh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, and Uttarakhand.

As per road accident statistics, 415 deaths per day occur in India and about 40% lives could be saved if immediate and basic medical treatment received during Golden hour period.

Ambulances with basic life-saving support system play a crucial role in stabilizing the critically injured person. The ministry stated that the cost of one ambulance was Rs. 20.70 lakh + GST.
