“When children are born, they are born into the community. The community is responsible for protecting and nurturing all children. There is no word in our language that is equivalent to “nuclear family’. There is no defined line of who is the parent. Children are seen as real people, not property. Parents are whatever adults are around the child that time.

Children are welcome wherever they go in the community, so they are always at home. Tribal community of Nagaland has so much to give to its children, the gift of community living, the gift of community protection and care and the gift of being an inclusive community and a child friendly community. Children are everywhere and children are everything that community has for the present and the future.

Children are all that the community must hold most dear. Then the present and the future is naturally taken care of.

In the fast changing present modern society, this community living and community care and protection is slowly eroding , (particularly in the towns) and the cases of children being abandoned, surrendered, abused and neglected are on the rise.

This is a very worrying trend, in spite of so many child protection laws and acts in the country and elsewhere .As such, the need to strengthen the existing laws and acts of child protection in the state. This is possible by giving the modern legal systems a touch of culturally practical and locally sustainable alternative.

An alternative, through revival, preservation and appreciation of the age-old traditional community practices of honoring and caring for children by the community right from grass root level from all villages and localities to the state level.

The very definition of CHILDLINE 1098 indicates the key concepts that give the service its identity. CHILDLINE aims at protecting the rights of the children and ensuring access to quality service and technology to the poorest of poor.

CHILDLINE 1098 is national 24 hour free phone emergency outreach service for children in need of care and protection under the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India and links State Governments, NGO’s, Bilateral/Multilateral Agencies, allied systems and the corporate sector.

CHILDLINE deals with missing children, abused children, runaway children, child labour, children needing medical assistance and all kinds of children in need of care and protection and also its main objective is to reach out to the most marginalized children and provide shelter, rescue, medical aid, repatriation and long term services.

The journey of CHILDLINE 1098 service initiated in Nagaland in the year 2011 with Community Educational Centre Society as Nodal Organisation and Prodigals Home as Collaborative Organisation. By seeing the success and efficiency of CHILDLINE 1098 service in Dimapur the State Government felt that there is an urgent need to initiate the service in the State capital i.e Kohima and in the year 2015 with the support of State Government CHILDLINE 1098 service was launched in Kohima with Nagaland Voluntary Health Association (NVHA) as the Collaborative organization. CHILDLINE 1098 service was further expanded and started in Mokokchung district in June 2018 with Care & Support Society as the Collaborative organization.

This year again, the CHILDLINE network takes on 'CHILDLINE Se Dosti Campaign 2019' with the aim to make a million more friends for CHILDLINE 1098.

The CHILDLINE se Dosti Campaign is about taking CHILDLINE to the community and getting people to know CHILDLINE, begin to care about vulnerable children, and get involved.

We envisage the Dosti Campaign as a warm and inviting initiative aimed at creating awareness about CHILDLINE 1098 that would reach out and touch people from all walks of life. CHILDLINE Se Dosti is a long term strategy to create week long national level CHILDLINE visibility on an annual basis.

The objectives of the campaign are a) Add a million dosts each year; b) Involve community in activities to get their participation in Child Protection c) Make Child protection everybody’s business.
