The District and Sessions Judge Faridkot on Tuesday denied anticipatory bail to former Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini.

Saini is an accused in a criminal case registered under Sections 307, 34, 201, 218, 166A, 120B, 34, 194, 195, 109 of the IPC and 25, 27 of the Arms Act at Kotkapura police station of Faridkot.

This case was registered in 2018, over three years after many persons were injured in the police firing on October 14, 2015 in the aftermath of sacrilege incidents at Bargari and Burj Jawahar Singh Wala.

In this case, Saini was charge-sheeted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Punjab Police some time back and he was summoned by the court.

A day back, Punjab and Haryana High Court had accepted Saini’s anticipatory bail in Behbal Kalan police firing case of 2015.
