COVID-19 positive cases reach 458 in Manipur

IMPHAL, Jun 14: COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur increased to 458 as nine more tested positive for the virus during the last 24 hours, officials said on Sunday.
An official source from the COVID-19 Common Control Room said that nine new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours. Of the nine, four were confirmed at RIMS’s VRDL and five at JNIMS’s VRDL.
With the nine new cases, the total number of positive cases has increased to 458. Of these, 367 are active cases.
Meanwhile, a statement of the same control room cautioned the elderly especially those with pre-existing health conditions stating that they are more vulnerable to the complication of COVID-19.
Nearly 8.6 percent of the population of the state is above 60 years. They need special care and protection, it observed.
The statement advised COVID-19 exposed or confirmed persons not to go near the elderly persons without a medical mask or serve them without sanitizing hands.
The outreach team of the state health department has been visiting old age homes functioning in the state and creating awareness on the pandemic and protect.
