Dass plea to ULFA-I to join peace talks

Assam BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass on Friday urged Ulfa (Independent) chief Paresh Barua to join the peace talks keeping aside his demand for a “sovereign state” as “it will not be possible”, reports The Telegraph.

Dass made the appeal for the ruling party a day after cabinet minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reiterated the government’s appeal to the banned outfit to come forward for talks at a rally held in Kokrajhar on Friday to celebrate the signing of the new Bodo Accord. Sarma had also said that he and chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal would discuss with Union home minister Amit Shah on how to move a formal appeal to Ulfa (I) and had urged stakeholders to approach any issue without any condition.

Dass said Barua should come overground and join the peace process for the greater interest of the Assamese community. He said the people protesting against CAA would eventually vote for the BJP as they come to know about the misinformation being spread about the law.

He said the number of people who would get citizenship was very low and nobody should worry about it.
