District court inaugurated at Baghmara

The Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, Justice Biswanath Somadder, inaugurated the District and Sessions Court in Baghmara, the district headquarters of South Garo Hills on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, Justice Somadder said that it was on this day that the separation of judiciary from executive in the district was complete and lauded the efforts of all concerned to see the functioning of the constitution in the district.

The Chief Justice observed that the new district court was the culmination of the executive from exercising the judicial powers, the pillars of democracy.

He also informed the people of the region that with the inauguration of the court, there will be easier access of judicial process and sought the cooperation of all the stakeholders.

State Law Minister, James Sangma, while saying that South Garo Hills is the last district to see the separation of judiciary from the executive said, “With the inauguration of the court, the tenets of good governance are expected in the district”. Commissioner and Secretary of Law Department, Wilfred Khyllep, read out the notification relating to separation of judiciary from the executive in South Garo Hills.

The judicial officials who will be manning the district court are Isormon Rymbui, the District and Sessions Judge, TTM Sangma, the Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, South Garo Hills and Rikchame Dachi Sangma as the first class Judicial Magistrate.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Justice H.S. Thangkhiew, South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, H.B. Marak and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Judicial) M.T. Sangma.
