Advisor youth resources and sports (YR&S), Er. Zale Neikha, Monday said that Dr. T. Ao Trophy Inter-District Football Tournament scheduled for October was kept in abeyance following the consultation with Nagaland Football Association (NFA) and district football associations.

Speaking to media persons here, the advisor said the department had discussed the proposal to host the tournament with the component department cells and go ahead with the “visual tournament”.  He said the department had agreed in principal, but decided to have further discussion with NFA whether to go ahead with the tournament.

NFA however responded that the tournament would not be possible to maintain SOPs and other technical issues.

After thorough consultation with NFA and district football associations, Neikha said they decided to keep the proposed tournament in abeyance. “We will wait for the new SOPs that can allow to host the tournaments,” he said.  The advisor asserted that the department was keen to organize sporting activities, but was not in a position to call any tournament.

With new SOPs in place, the advisor expressed hope that the department could organise contactless sporting activities such as badminton, table tennis in the near future.
