Against the backdrop of the emergence of second wave of COVID-19 and detection of new cases in some schools in Mokokchung, Dimapur Sümi Students’ Union (DSSU) has urged the state government to conduct online classes for schools and colleges across the state.

In a press statement, DSSU president, L Kivipu Shohe and general secretary, N Mugha Aye pointed out that due to detection of new COVID-19 cases in some schools in Mokokchung district, the district administration had to close down the schools and colleges, exempting the ongoing HSLC and HSSLC exams.

Expressing concern that the same may happen in other districts of the state, which might worsen the situation, the union has urged the government to conduct online classes till the spread of the virus could be contained.

Meanwhile, DSSU has also lauded the state government for taking up swift precautionary measures to fight the second wave of COVID-19 by issuing new revised Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

In this regard, the student body has requested public to follow SOP to avoid the spread of virus and constrain the increasing number of cases in the state.

DDSU has also requested the state Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) department to speed up the survey and submit the report at the earliest through which the government may take up proper precautionary measures and make decision for the schools and colleges.
