District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) Mokokchung under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) conducted awareness programme to prioritise promotion of “Tobacco free village” at Longmisa village on July 4.

A press release from CMO office Mokokchung stated that Longmisa Village Council with the help of Longmisa Baptist Arogo had imposed a strict ban on sale of tobacco products within the village jurisdiction since 2018.

Applauding the wise initiative of the council and the church, district consultant (DTCC) Mokokchung, Nukshiwati Longchar advocated the village council chairman and council members the importance of the ban on sale and consumption of paan, gutka, cigarette and other tobacco products and how spitting in public places increases the threat in spreading COVID-19 infections. He also reminded about the order of deputy commissioner, Mokokchung regarding the consequences of paying fine if found spitting in public places.

DTCC Mokokchung has also been actively carrying out the awareness programme on ban and consumption of tobacco products and its affects relating to COVID-19 through poster campaign in quarantine centres, District Hospital and market places around the town.
