DVH Dmu observes ‘World rabies Day’

District Veterinary Hospital (DVH) Dimapur observed “World Rabies Day” on September 28, under the theme “End rabies: collaborate, vaccinate”, organized by department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Nagaland.

A press release by deputy director and in-charge of District Veterinary Hospital, Dimapur Dr K.N. Humtsoe stated that while delivering keynote address, chief veterinary officer (CVO) Dimapur Dr Nsanthung Ezung underlined that rabies was a hundred percent fatal zoonotic disease which was transmitted from animals to humans. 
He also highlighted about the importance of the celebration saying that the day was observed to raise awareness and to highlight the progress in eliminating the disease. Ezung furthermore maintained that in India there were reports of 18 thousand to 20 thousand deaths due to rabies ever year. A total of 155 dogs were given free anti-rabies vaccination.
