Failed grenade attack on Imphal AG office

Suspected militants failed in carrying out a bomb attack on the AG (Accountant General) office when they lobbed a hand grenade on Wednesday afternoon.

After the failed grenade attack, top officials of the state police and CRPF rushed to the AG office and took stock of the situation.

Two motorcycle-borne youths suspected to be militants lobbed the hand grenade at the AG office situated on the eastern side of NH-102 adjacent to state police headquarters and opposite Imphal West district police headquarters which is also  guarded round the clock by the CRPF personnel.

A police report stated that the two suspects lobbed the Chinese made hand grenade around 2.35 pm which t failed to explode. The grenade fell near the northern sentry post of the office. 

The grenade attack was suspected to have been intended to target security personnel guarding the office, according to the police personnel who rushed to the spot soon after the incident. 

Experts of the state police bomb detection and disposal squad safely defused the grenade and disposed it at an open area of Langol in Imphal West district around 4 pm.

Imphal police station has lodged a suo mottu against the unknown culprits for further investigation.

None of the insurgent group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
