Suspected militants on Saturday launched a failed bomb attack at the residence of a leader of regional political party in Manipur Oinam Jugindro, a senior political who was the president of Manipur People’s Party (MPP), the oldest regional party of the state until he was removed from the post by the Central Committee of the party on February 12, 2020.
Police said that miscreants lobbed the hand grenade at the residence of Oinam Jugindro at Top Siphai under Wangoi police station of Imphal West district today, around 10 am.
Police recovered the unexploded hand grenade from the kitchen garden on the side of the main entrance gate of the residence. The same was later disposed at a safe place.
Police is yet to establish the motive behind the failed bomb attack at a time when the party (MPP) is reeling under leadership crisis.
The oldest regional party of the state has been occasionally in the news for all the wrong reason of leadership crisis. Jugindro had become the president of the party after a long tussle for the post before the general election to the Lok Sabha, 2019.
He also contested the Lok Sabha election as the party nominee.
However, in what would be termed an internal coup, he was not only ousted from the post of president but also expelled  from the primary membership of the party by an order of the MPP Central Committee.
The police suspect the failed bomb attack is related to a recent monetary demand served to the MPP leader by a faction of armed group, Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP).
