Five tribal bodies reject NCD directive

Five tribal bodies in Dimapur have refused to follow the directive of the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) vide letter dated July 5, addressed to various tribal bodies to re-nominate members to NCD for the tenure 2020-25.

This was revealed through a joint statement by five tribe bodies- Western Chakhesang Hoho (president Dietho Rhakho); Mao Hoho Dimapur (president John Kape), Pomai Hoho (president K.A Jotham), Rengma Public Organisation Dimapur (president Wanthang Rengma) and Tangkhul Union Dimapur (jt. secretary Chanso Kharnsang). The five asserted that their representatives will “remain as members of the NCD till the valid proof for removal is ascertained.”

In their letter to NCD vice president, the five tribe bodies pointed out that there was no valid reason for removal of their nominated members from NCD. The hohos said they did not find any fault with the members nor have they (members) violated the constitution.  They reiterated that the members were mandated by their respective tribal bodies to represent in the NCD.  Further, the five hohos said they had expected the Memorandum of Understanding, signed between two contending parties under the banner of the Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur, to be implemented at the earliest so as to amicably resolve the crises.

While appreciating the initiative taken by ASTD to bring both the contending parties together to a mutual trust and understanding, the five tribes however pointed out that since the MoU was yet to be implemented, they would not be able to respond to the NCD’s letter.
