Football tournament in Noklak kicks off

A football tournament organised by Khiamniungan Students Union in collaboration with Khiamniungan Sports Council kicked off on January 5 at public ground, Noklak with 18 teams vying for the title. 

Held on the theme, “Invigorating the talent”, the opening ceremony was graced by Nagaland Football Association vice president, Colo Meru. Meru in his speech reminded the players that to become a good sportsman, proper training should start from a young age, DIPR reported. 

He mentioned that initiatives should start from the grass roots level adding that sports activities in schools and villages should be organised so that many sportsmen will come up from the district. He also encouraged the players to be disciplined in all areas.

Khiamniungan Sports Council, president, Er.Elo Khiamniungan also spoke during the occasion. Earlier, welcome address was delivered by games and sports secretary, Khiamniungan Students Union Sheying. 

Indian Red Cross Society Noklak District Branch set up a stall for awareness of COVID-19 and distributed face mask and soap to participating teams. 

The tournament will continue till January 14.
