Forest personnel trained on handling tools in Dimapur

Kiphire Wildlife Division, department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, organised a training programme on March 8, with an objective to train the personnel of forest and wild life division on handling technology in the field. 

The training was conducted under the aegis of National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS) implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, on the topic “Conservation through the lens of Camera Trap” at Nature Learning Centre – Conference Hall, Forest Offices Complex, Dimapur. At the training programme, deputy conservator of forest, Suman WM Sivachar spoke on the objective of the programme, which he said was to familiarize the staff on how to handle tools like camera traps and GPS devices in the field. 
It was followed by an address from chief wildlife warden, Nagaland, Vedpal Singh, who also encouraged the trainees to generate data driven reports from the field. He encouraged the participants to be proactive in using technology for collecting data from the field, which would be a source of knowledge for the department in planning and data-driven decision making.  Forest range officer, Baghty Range, Lansothung Lotha gave a presentation on the uses and applications of camera traps and GPS devices. The presentation was followed by a hands-on exercise by all the participants to familiarize themselves with the working of both the camera traps and the GPS devices.
ACF, Dimapur Forest Division, Rama Shankar Prasad shared his experiences and examples with the participants on camera trapping in the field.
