In a major boost for the growth of footballers in Nagaland, ‘AIFF Golden baby league’ is likely to be introduced in Nagaland to promote football at the grassroots level. This was revealed by state coordinator for Golden Baby League William Koso to Nagaland Post.

The coordinator informed that the proposal was taken up by Nagaland Football Association (NFA) to All India Football Federation (AIFF) for the project to be introduced in Nagaland. The league which emphasised on ages under-6 to under-12, both for boys and girls to promote football at grassroots level.

Koso said the modalities are on process, however, informed that the league should have involvement of all the clubs, associations, parent body, organisations for the league to be successful. He also added that at least six districts should be involved in the league. 

After which the league will be introduced in the state according to the AIFF schedule as to when time is suitable to introduce the sports activities in Nagaland. He further informed that the Nagaland Football Association in collaboration with Department of Youth Resources and Sport will be organising the league in the near future.

In order to create awareness about the league, an online workshop for the league will be introduced to the state for clubs, parents, football enthusiasts, associations and organisations through webinar (zoom) on September 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. through

Mentioned be made that the Golden Baby Leagues project was launched in the year 2018 in association with FIFA’s development programme – FIFA Forward. The project envisages that children get exposure to an age-appropriate number of games and playing formats. The Golden Baby Leagues is aimed for all stakeholders of Indian Football who are engaged with children within this age group, be it clubs, academies, schools, non-government organizations, parents, coaches, football fans.
