Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) has reportedly settled a case involving harassment and assault on its member at his business establishment on February 10 by a miscreant with no rhyme or reason.

In a press release, MCCI vice president, Imkongchuba Longkumer and general secretary, Limalenden Longkumer stated the matter was brought to its logical conclusion after the culprit admitted to his misdemeanour that was unbecoming of his profession and tendered his apology on February 11.

MCCI said that the “culprit” also signed a statement of promise, appended by a witness that he would not indulge in such activities in the future. It said that he also be held solely responsible should any untoward incident happen to the victim consequent to the February 10 incident.

Describing Mokokchung as “perhaps the most peaceful town in Nagaland today”, the MCCI cautioned that any anti-social element causing ruckus in the market, which hampered the peaceful environment, would be viewed seriously and would not be tolerated when its innocent members were victimized.

Further, MCCI directed all its members to extend all-out cooperation to the authorities in keeping the town clean. Traders have also been informed not to keep their garbage for disposal on Saturday evenings as MMC sanitation workers remain off duty on Sundays.
