Hotels in Meghalaya are all set to re-open after more than 3 months from July 1 next, deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong informed on Friday.

“After receiving inputs from concerned deputy commissioners, we decided that re-opening of hotels will start from July 1. Protocols and Standard Operating Procedures are being issued to all Deputy Commissioners to take necessary actions accordingly,” he told journalists during the course of his daily briefing.

“Hotels requisitioned by the government would continue to remain in service but those which are not would be allowed to reopen from July 1,” Tynsong said. On the issue related to the government’s decision to school fees, the Deputy Chief Minister said a draft notification has been approved by the government and it will come out by Saturday.

“It will not only be for tuition fees but also for privately run hostels or those running paying guests (PGs). The order states that proprietors of privately owned hostels in the state of Meghalaya are directed to cease from charging rent from students from April 1 till further orders.

Again students who continued staying from April 1 will have to pay but proprietors should not charge any hostel fees from those who left due to lockdown,” Tynsong disclosed.
