1 gets jail term for forgery, cheating

The court of judicial magistrate first class Longleng, has convicted one Pongba Konyak, son of Shawa Konyak of Ngangching village Mon district, to four-and-a-half years in prison for forging appointment orders.
Delivering the judgement, the judicial magistrate first class Longleng Holika Sukhalu observed that a befitting quantum of sentence be passed against the convict with the objective that the sentence may serve as deterrent to crime by the offender or by others in respect of the similar offences in the future.
The court sentenced the convict to undergo simple imprisonment of three years and a fine of Rs.1000 in default to undergo additional imprisonment for 30 days for the offence under Section 466, IPC.
He would also undergo simple imprisonment for one year and a fine of Rs.1000 in default to undergo additional imprisonment for 30 days for the offence.
Further, the convict would undergo simple imprisonment for six months and fine of Rs.1000 in default to undergo additional imprisonment for 30 days for the offence under Section 420, IPC. The court ordered that all sentences would run concurrently. It stated that any period undergone by the accused will be set off against the term of sentence.
