2 held with gold worth Rs. 80 lakh in Manipur

Anti-smuggling unit of Imphal customs division seized gold worth over Rs 80.37 lakh and arrested two persons including a woman.
An official source from the custom division on Monday said that one person was arrested at Imphal Airport and recovered 1.242 kilogram of gold from his possession on September 15.
The man identified as Shakir Ahmed (26) of Lilong in Thoubal district, was about to travel to New Delhi in an Air India flight.
He was detained at the departure hall of the airport after 1.242 kilogram of gold of foreign origin was found in his possession.
He tried to smuggle the gold worth Rs 54,97,332 by concealing in his rectum, the officials claimed.
The sleuths of the Imphal customs division also arrested a woman with three gold biscuits of foreign origin in another operation at Khongjom of Thoubal district, the official said.
The gold weighing together 498 grams was found when the sleuths conducted a check to the woman later identified as M Jinat wife of M Selung Singh of Lilong Arapti of Thoubal district.
