Correspondent

Hundreds of passengers, including tourists, were struck up at various locations on two main national highways passing through Manipur on Monday due to an indefinite highway bandh imposed by All Manipur (Hill &Valley) MGNREGA Implementing Agency Committee (AMMEAC).
AMMEAC has imposed the blockade on national highways (Imphal-Mao section of NH-2 and Imphal-Jiribam section of NH-37) from Sunday midnight, the lifelines of Manipur due to non-payment of MGNREGA wages.
The committee alleged that even as the central government had already sanctioned more than Rs. 756 crore as wage component of the scheme, the state government has not released the fund till date.
Reports said that owing to the bandh, hundreds of Imphal-bound vehicles including goods laden trucks and inter-state passenger service vehicles were stranded at various locations at Mao gate bordering Nagaland on NH-2 and at various places along NH-37 in Jiribam area.
On day one, bandh supporters came out on the highways at various locations and prevented movement of all kinds of vehicles.
