Awareness on ‘violence against women & children’

Sakhi-One Stop Centre (OSC) Zunheboto organised an awareness programme on “Violence against women and children” on April 25 at Council Hall of Usutomi village.
In a press release, the department informed that guest speaker, nodal director and governing board member CHILDLINE India foundation, Subonenba Longkumer gave a brief presentation on CHILDLINE 1098 Nagaland and highlighted the activities, cases and structure of CHILDLINE 1098.
Stressing on the importance of inculcating “traditional values” in children, Longkumer said most children in Nagaland were brought up with traditional values, discipline and knowledge, which in the long run protects and indoctrinates them from committing criminal offences.
Highlighting the importance reporting violence against women and children, Longkumer lamented that many cases went unreported due to “fear and stigma of being rejected in the society”.
He urged the gathering to share and pass on the information of CHILDLINE 1098 and 181.
Centre administration Sakhi-OSC Zunheboto, Alovini Yeptho spoke on legal rights of women, domestic violence Act 2015 and Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006 while case worker OSC Zunheboto, Helito L. Chophi spoke on Juvenile Justice Act, and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 (POCSO).
