Awareness, screening programme at School of Nursing, IMDH, Mokokchung

As part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebration and 37th National Eye Donation Fortnight, School of Nursing, IMDH, Mokokchung held awareness cum screening programme on September 3 under the theme “Let Your Eyes Live On”.
In a press release, IMDH Mokokchung informed that theme speaker, ophthalmologist, IMDH, Mokokchung, Dr. Renjano highlighted on eye donation, its dependence on individuals who were willing to pledge their eyes for donation, and for the relatives of the donors to honor the pledge upon their death.
Dr. Renjano added that eyes could be donated even if the deceased has not formally made a pledge during their lifetime. She stated that though, there has been continuous progress in eye donations over the last few years, there is still a huge gap between demand and supply.
Hence, to address this gap, and to create awareness among the community regarding eye donation and related issues, NPCB celebrates eye donation fortnight every year from August 25 to September 8 she said. She also mentioned that pledge cards were available at eye OPD and requested the audience to collect them and also educate and encourage others.
Earlier, medical superintendent, IMDH, Mokokchung, Dr. Marina exhorted the audience to make a pledge to donate their eyes. Dr. Martula chaired the programme while Dr. Lanuyanger offered the prayer. Programme was attended by doctors, nurses, nursing students and staff of IMDH, Mokokchung.
