Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh each to the next kin of four construction workers of Katihar’s Korha block who were killed in a road accident in Kukidolong area under Chümoukedima district on Saturday.
He also asked Bihar’s resident commissioner at Delhi Palka Sahni to talk to senior officials in Nagaland government and make arrangements for bringing the bodies of all four workers to their native village in Korha block, a Times of India (TOI) report stated.
All the four deceased workers had left their native village Rajjiganj under Korha block only five days ago to eke out a living by working as construction workers in Nagaland.
The deceased were later identified as Raghuvansh Mahto, Pankaj Kumar, Sanjay Kumar and Shiv Nandan Kumar, all in the age group of 19 to 24 years.
The four Bihari workers and one local person were killed, and three others seriously injured after their vehicle was hit by a truck.
Meanwhile, Katihar district magistrate Udayan Mishra told TOI on Sunday that the bodies of all four deceased workers were brought to their native village by road on two hired ambulances late Sunday evening.
“Besides Rs two lakh, the district administration would give an additional Rs one lakh each to their families through the labour resources department,” Mishra said, adding the two injured workers of Katihar were being treated at a hospital in Dimapur.
