Business Union Changtongya Town (BUCT) has announced indefinite shutter-down of all business establishments at Changtongya Town till a concrete and decision was taken with regard to reopening of the weekly Saturday market (Haluating Bazar).
In a representation to Mokokchung deputy commissioner, union’s president Imsuyanger and general secretary Chuba Wati reiterated their opposition to the market.
Learning from reliable sources that the weekly market at Changtongya Town was about to resume from April 16, they said they had deliberated on the matter during the union’s executive meeting on April 13 and submitted a representation to the administration concerned stating that since the union’s main motive was to promote and encourage local entrepreneurs post Covid-19, it totally oppose the resumption of the weekly market.
Subsequently, they recalled that SDO (C) of Changtongya had convened a combined meeting of gaon burahs and representatives of All Ward Union and BUCT on April 26 to discuss the issue, but no amicable solution could be made. Therefore, the SDO (C) assured them that the matter would be amicably resolved during the next combined meeting that would be convened at the earliest.
But they alleged that the union was totally ignored/neglected and an order for resumption of the Saturday Bazar was issued on May 12 by the SDO (C).
