Chuba Chang inaugurates RCC bridge over River Ngai

The Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) bridge over River Ngai which connects Wokha district and Zunheboto district was inaugurated by special guest, advisor for PWD Road and Bridges, H. Chuba Chang on May 13.
In a press release, Saptiqa Area GBs Association (SAGBA) informed that Chang said that if Nagas desired to pave for development, they must “firstly do away the culture of landownership benefits”.
He asserted that landowners must not seek for personal benefits which he said, was a hurdle for developmental progress and that they should rather think for the benefit of the community.
The advisor said in order to attain any smooth development, the public, GBs and civil societies should cooperate with the state government.
In his inaugural speech, Er. Picto Shohe, MLA, said Ngai RCC bridge was dedicated particularly to the people of Saptiqa and Atoizu area and that the bridge not only connected Wokha with Zunheboto district but also connected neighbouring districts and villages.
Narrating the background of the RCC bridge, Picto said during the site location for the construction, there was a number of technical problems but through the intervention of the then engineer-in-chief, NPWD, Er. Meren Jamir, the present site location was finalised.
Meanwhile, engineer-in-chief NPWD, Er. Kahuli Sema said earlier, there was no permanent bridge connection in the region and people suffered untold hardships.
He said the commuters travelled to Satakha and subsequently via Chozuba road to reach Kohima and Dimapur.
He, however, said with the installation of RCC Bridge over River Ngai, the journey would now be more convenient.
In his technical presentation, executive engineer, PWD (R&B) Atoizu division, Er. K Hetoi Sema informed that the work was sanctioned on January 7, 2013 with fund amounting to 10.74 crore and was constructed by Vizheto Sumi.
The programme was chaired by additional chief engineer PWD (R&B) Kohima, Er. Kevide Nakhro, dedicatory prayer by associate pastor youth, Shena Old Baptist Church, Ato G., while benediction was offered by Usutomi Baptist Church pastor, Shihuto Awomi.
It may be mentioned that the RCC bridge was constructed under the Special Plan Assistance (SPA).
