In an effort to accelerate Covid vaccination drive and encourage people to take the jab, some legislators and government officials led by chief minister, Neiphiu Rio received the precautionary Covid-19 booster dose.
Interacting with the media after receiving the booster jab, Rio said he was aware and as guided by the Health department since there was no medicine against the virus, the only preventive measure was to get vaccinated.
While urging people above 60 years of age to come forward and take the booster dose, Rio said he was 72 years old now and was eligible and had therefore taken it. To those people who not even taken the first done of the vaccine, Rio urged them not to be misled by the propaganda and hearsay.
“When I can take the vaccine and remain safe, you also could do the same thing. Nothing has happened to me, infact, I am safe from Covid-19 so far,” Rio said. He thanked God, the scientists and the health workers. Besides taking the vaccine, Rio urged the citizens to religiously follow the laid down SOPs given by the health department which includes hygiene, wearing of masks and staying away from crowds in order to prevent getting infected with the virus.
