CSU condemns Apr 17 incident

Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) has vehemently condemned the heinous crime perpetrated against two minors in Kohima on Sunday.
In a condemnation, CSU president Avezo Kevin Kapu and asst general secretary, Asalü Veswuh alleged that the accused one Yankiuba Yimchunger, a neighbour of the victims, had allegedly “lured and abducted” the siblings– boy (8 years) of class 1 and girl (12 years) of class 7 at around 5:30 p.m. on April 17 on the pretext of buying candies.
CSU said the accused left the boy alone at around 10:30 p.m. and took the girl away and allegedly raped the minor. CSU said it was perplexed and shocked by such inhumane and barbaric act meted out against the minors, instigating fear psychosis in a civilised society which was highly deplorable.
The union appealed to the law enforcing agencies to probe into the matter and award befitting punishment to the accused without delay. CSU said the accused deserved non-negotiable punishment as per the law of the land. Further, the union expressed solidarity and sympathy with the victims and the family.
According to police sources, the accused was apprehended and under police custody.
