DBSU fetes HSLC & HSSLC Bengali student toppers

Dimapur Bengali Students Union (DBSU) on Sunday felicitated the 13 HSLC and HSSLC Bengali toppers, at St Mary Montessori Hr Sec School, with minister of Transport, Excise & Fisheries, govt of Assam, Parimal Shuklabaidya as the chief guest and advisor, IT, Science & Technology and NRE, govt of Nagaland, & national spokesperson, BJP, Mmhonlumo Kikon, as the guest of honour.
Addressing the gathering, minister of Transport, Excise & Fisheries, govt of Assam, Parimal Shuklabaidya, stated that he came to Nagaland to meet the students and also to encourage students on the importance of knowing who Bengalis were.
He stated that there were times when scholars from China visited India for education, however now claiming that they were ahead of India now.
In this, he maintained that India never fell behind when it came to education and civilization.
He further spoke on how Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism etc., originated in India, adding that India showed the way to the world.
The minister further spoke on how under prime minister, Narendra Modi, Bengalis like Netaji and BC Paul were given due recognition.
He later congratulated all the students for their hard work and success.
Meanwhile, addressing the gathering, Kikon acknowledged the DBSU for organising the felicitation for the Bengali toppers, stating that such programmes would only motivate the student community in performing better in their educational activities.
He also congratulated all students for their success, asserting that they have not only brought laurels for themselves, but also for their school and parents, and the Bengali community as a whole.
He however urged all students to continue to work harder to adhesive their goals and also to serve and study with full dedication, hard work and selflessness, adding that such determination would allow them to achieve everything one aspire to be.
He later acknowledged the activities and humanitarian works carried out by the Bengali community during the lockdown period in the state, adding that the state government would never forget their service.
During the award ceremony, awards such as the “Chandan Mazumder Memorial Award” was presented by Bishnu Bhattacharjee and family. This was followed by a speech delivered by president, Dimapur Bengali Samaj, Kamla Kanta Paul.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Deep Debnath and welcome address delivered by newly elected president, Deepankar Sarkar. The secretarial report was delivered by general secretary, Rajat Ghosh.
Following the speech by chief guest, concluding the programme, the vote of thanks was pronounced by games and sports secretary, Monodeep Chowdhury.
Highlights of the programme included lighting of lamp, oath taking of newly inducted office bearers, and musical and dance presentations.
