The state government will directly transfer the amount of CM’s Covid-19 Affected Livelihood Support Scheme from August 21 to all whose livelihoods have been affected by the pandemic, reports East Mojo. This was informed at the house by the Manipur CM N Biren Singh on the first day of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. So far, 25,000 people have applied to avail the financial assistance of Rs 5,000 under the scheme, which would be paid in two equal instalments of Rs 2500, said the leader of the house.
The eligible occupations under the scheme include street vendors, farmers, daily wage workers, construction site workers, public transport drivers, school van drivers, shop assistants, artisans, weavers, performing artists, home-based businesses, etc.
While replying to the question raised by the opposition Congress MLA K Meghachandra during the question hour, the leader of the house also informed the house that the state govt keeping under consideration for payment of compensation/exgratia to the nearest kin for that claimed by Covid-19. However, this matter is yet to be decided due to the unseen & unpredictable situation of the Covid-19. As on August 19, 1,732 person have died due to Covid-19 so far.
The CM also informed the house that the state Govt has made adequate preparation for any potential COVID wave. Ventilator beds have been increased, oxygen plants have been set up across all district & the number of health workers has gone up since the first wave, he added.
The 13th session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, which begins from today will have 3 sittings and will be concluded on 24 August. Obituary references were also given to 8 individuals, 7 former elected representatives and one former secretary of Manipur Legislative Assembly.
