District level social audit under MGNREGS conducted in Wokha

Department of rural development (RD) Wokha, conducted its first phase of district level social audit public hearing under MGNREGS for the financial year 2020-21 on July 12 at deputy commissioner (DC) Wokha conference hall.
According to a DIPR report, assistant director of social audit unit (SAU) Nagaland, Imlirenla Sanglir in her introductory speech highlighted the importance of social audit under MGNREGA. She said the social audits were a “critical mechanism” through which they empowered citizens and strengthened democratic action thereby bringing about social transformation, community participation, and a tool to bring transparency and accountability. To attain its objectives, she asked implementing agencies and programme functionaries to judiciously follow the guidelines.
Observer from district administration, EAC Wokha, I. Yentinougbou said that since MGNREGA was demand-driven, the workforce should be generated to its maximum as given in the guidelines.
In his speech, project director DRDA Wokha, reiterated that the programme functionaries take corrective measures accordingly as per social audit findings. He also instructed VDBs to follow MGNREGS guidelines while executing projects.
Resource person of SAU Nagaland, district resource person, Ningsangla Lomou presented social audit findings for Ralan and Chukitong block while block resource person, Yanathung presented social audit findings for Chanpang block after which Gram Sabha resolution of all respective villages were reviewed.
Earlier, programme was chaired by DPO, DRDA Wokha, Shuyhunle Nyethong while vote of thanks was proposed by BDO Chanpang, Mhabemo Humtsoe.
Altogether, 27 villages were covered during the first phase of the social audit for the financial year 2022-23.
